Course History

The name Sebastian dates back before the year 1100 A.D. The rich history of the name is documented in many heraldry books. However, the history of this Sebastian name dates back only 52 years (in 2000) in the name of Alex E. (Gene) Sebastian. Gene was born in Breathitt Co., KY and came to Xenia to teach school in 1969. Gene and his wife June purchased this property in 1988 and called it the Knoll Haven Farm. The original farm consisted of the farm house and 65 acres. Gene had a dream of building a golf course on day, so he kept adding a few acres along the way until the acreage was up to 167. The Federal style farm house (about 200 years old) has been transformed into the present day club house and snack bar.

Gene, Will Napier, Steve Bogenschutz and Ric Bailey (Founding Members) invited friends and investors to join in Gene's dream of building a championship golf course. The search began in 1997 to find an architect to design the course. Steve Burns (Burns Golf) of Florida (a former employee of Tom Fazio) was selected to do the design work. Mr. Burns designed many recognizable name golf courses while in the employ of Mr. Fazio.

The Sebastian Hills Golf Club logo is a combination of two family coat of arms, the name Sebastian (German) and Golfier (French for Golfer).

Construction began June 1, 1998, and opened May 12, 2000.

We hope that you enjoy Sebastian Hills as much as we have in developing it for your enjoyment. Keep it in the fairway!

"The owners of Sebastian Hills Golf Club want to share the message below: We have reached the year to retire (75 and 80), therefore, we will not open Sebastian Hills in 2018. We desire that some new owners will step forward to take the golf course to new heights.
We are not physically able to keep up the pace anymore. We ask that golfers, members and outing groups will not jump ship too early in hopes that someone will purchase the course. Our realtor has informed us that he has another entity that has expressed an interest in the land for specialy farming. All equipment, 64 golf carts and 28 Cruisers will become part of the sale of 165 +- acres. All personnel are awaiting the new owners to step forward.
Interested parties can respond by replying to this email. The asking price is $ 1.99 million or a sensible offer. The depreciation schedule for a golf course is a great tax saver.
We appreciate your support and patronage for our 18 years.
Thank you: Will and Joe"
